What I noticed when I actually read the book is that Lisa Irby goes in deep when she explains this. As I expected, the book was a pretty simple read. What I didn't expect was to find the pots of gold that I found in the book. It really shed light on the subject for me and caused me to change my entire approach around with how I maintain my websites now.
I actually found valuable information that I didn't expect to find. It became clear to me that Lisa is a professional and her information was good. As well as defined niche websites, she also ties in how your website is affected by all of your activities online, such as social networking, making videos and so much more. As I read further, I didn't expect that I would even get tax information and also learn how profit is actually made on a website. For me, building websites started as a hobby, just something I enjoyed doing, to actually learning how I could supplement my income. My brain started thinking in different ways about what I was doing. And the concept even started to make sense to me. It would have prevented me from making a lot of bad decisions and foolish mistakes that we are all compelled to make when we first begin. I admit, though I wasn't worried about income when I first began blogging, I was interested in creating a community that people would enjoy. As webmasters, it's our job to try and add value to the internet. That makes it a good deed. But we all have learning curves that we must surpass to get to the next level. And new ideas about these conversations developed and got the creative juices flowing in my brain. Lisa Irby's book is comparable to a 101 course on achieving website success. It's a great starting point for you to get your website up and running. Heck! I was already recieving a good amount of traffic myself when I read the book, but fresh new ideas were revealed to me that I may not have thought of otherwise.
One thing Lisa irby has taught me is that eduction never stops. It's an ongoing process. I believe I have obtained enough information about websites to write my own book, yet and still, everyday I learn new ideas and new things that I wouldn't know without constantly keeping abreast trends of the internet. Think of it like this: Google has thousands of people working on and tweaking their algorithms on a daily basis. They are constantly improving their algorithm and announcing new ways that the internet search process is vastly changing.
When I think of this, I don't get deterred; I get excited about it. Everytime something changes on the web or new technologies become implemented, it allows me the advantage of finding out what these trends are and keeping up with them. That, my friend, keeps me a step ahead of someone doing exactly what I am doing, that is not keeping up to date with this current and new information as it becomes available. It gives me a chance to grow as a person and as a business. I used to look at my website as passion but it was a hobby. Now I look at what I do as a business, and that triggers me to take more responsible action at mastering my craft. It makes me smarter, sharper and overall, just a better business person.

Affiliate marketing was really my first “job”. I started my senior year in college.
When did you first start to get into internet marketing?
When I was in college I stumbled upon a website that was earning money through affiliate marketing. So I created my very first site, joined a few affiliate programs (Amazon.com being one of them) and learned SEO.
Since that time I’ve had several websites come and go. I’ve learned a lot through trial and error. I am grateful for every mistake I’ve made because they are all very good learning lessons.

I own three websites, a forum and a blog. 2 Create a Website.com is by far my most successful and popular site. It’s the largest, the one I spend the most time on and the site I am most passionate about.

Can you share some traffic stats? What’s your best tactic for acquiring targeted traffic?
Right now, 2 Create a Website is the traffic winner with about 13,000 unique visitors per day. The other sites generate about 10,000 unique visitors per day among them.
The majority of my traffic comes from natural search results (SEO). I don’t spend a lot of time tweaking for SEO like some webmasters. I try to follow the basic Google Webmaster guidelines for meta tags, linking, content, etc. and let the chips fall where they may. The voluntary inbound links from other Webmasters have really helped my rankings over time since the search engines value quality inbound (backlinks).
** Ed's note: I prefer this tactic as well. Set a page on course and leave it. You are better off spending time developing new features than 'tweaking' existing pages. I also get quite a bit of traffic from YouTube. Since 2007, I have been making videos to teach and help build my brand. YouTube is now my 2nd most popular traffic source.
What do you think is the most effective way to make money online?
It’s hard to say what the “most effective” is because I haven’t tried them all. But I will say that one of the most convenient ways to make money online is through affiliate marketing. I love not needing inventory and dealing with some of the hassles that can come with running an ecommerce website. I also love to teach and write, so affiliate marketing allows me to do both and get paid at the same time.
If you can become an “expert” in an area that interests you and build a website to teach others what you already know, the money making opportunities are endless.
Who do you look up to in the world of internet marketing?

Ken Evoy of SiteSell.com and Allan Gardyne of AssociatePrograms.com are two people that I have followed since the very beginning. They both taught me the importance of building credibility through useful content and presentation. I also look up to Darren Rowse of ProBlogger.net and Yaro Starak of Entrepreneurs-Journey.com.
What has been the single biggest factor for your online success?
It’s all about content and delivery. It doesn’t matter how many YouTube videos you make or how big your website is, if you do not produce something of substance and value no one will care.
My goal for every website is to teach in such a way that no other site has taught before and I believe that has given me an edge in the niches I choose to focus on.
What is your single biggest piece of advice to anyone starting out online?
Understand this takes time to develop and celebrate the progress, no matter how small it is. It’s easy to focus on what you haven’t accomplished yet, but if you step back and look at how far you’ve come, you’ll find it very motivating.
